He is currently an associate professor of anesthesiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He comes to his new position with a rich history of involvement in numerous high-profile committees.\u00a0 He has experience with our country\u2019s current opioid addiction problems making him more aware of all addictions in general. Dr. Adams may focus his attention on not only opioid addiction but nicotine addiction as well.\u00a0<strong>Will Dr. Adams be sympathetic to the vaping community?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0There are some signs that he may be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indiana has one of the toughest anti-vaping laws in the country<\/strong>. \u00a0Dr. Adams knows that banning vaping was a harsh decision.\u00a0 Indiana is home to the\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cRight 2 Be Smoke Free\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0lawsuit for\u00a0<strong>vaping rights<\/strong>. \u00a0Dr. Adams supported the aggressive regulations against vaping early on. There has been a motion to repeal the law against vaping.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Adams is very aware of what is taking place in his home state, and\u00a0<strong>there are some good signs that perhaps he is more inclined to seriously consider vaping as a safer alternative to tobacco use<\/strong>. There is concern about\u00a0<strong>tobacco use<\/strong>amongst pregnant women, and Dr. Adams believes in a\u00a0<strong><em>\u201charm reduction\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0approach to vaping as compared to tobacco smoking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are taking a wait-and-see approach with the new administration. The FDA is somewhat anti-regulation and vaping may benefit. There have been mixed messages about ecigs and many questions remain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We hope to contact Dr. Adams regarding his position on vaping. The statistics are favorable for vaping especially since\u00a0<strong>millions of Americans have been able to quit smoking because of vaping<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The CDC reports 480,000 deaths per year from tobacco use. \u00a0<\/strong>E-cigarettes are the solution to a devastating health problem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Jerome Adams\u00a0is a candidate to be our next\u00a0Surgeon General of the United States.
