And the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer is doing its part to spread the word. The IASLC is running point on this task along with a consortium of non-profit advocacy organizations and passionate individuals.
A campaign website, which can be found at www.lcam.org are true stories of lung cancer survivors, tales from friends, family and caregivers of loved ones with the disease, and the real-life statistics of this heartbreaking illness.
Did you know lung cancer makes up more than a quarter of all cancer deaths? In fact, lung cancer deaths lead all other cancers in both men and women. To put that in perspective for you, more people die from lung cancer every year than do from colon, breast, and prostate cancers. Combined.
Lung cancer poses a significant threat in all corners of the globe and the public needs to be informed. The IASLC and its coalition of advocates is encouraging members and non-members to bring this story to the attention of their local media and advocacy groups in an effort to help build awareness of this ruthless disease.
Three ways you can help spread the word about Lung Cancer Awareness Month
- You can help by posting about Lung Cancer Awareness Month on social media and encouraging your friends to do the same. Don’t forget to use the #LCAM hashtag to consolidate efforts this November.
- Inform your local media. Whether that’s a local television, radio, podcast, or even your school paper.
- Talk about this with friends and family. The pervasiveness of this disease makes it likely that you or someone close to you knows of someone who has suffered from this disease. Start a discussion and spread awareness.
- If you or a loved one is a smoker, bring up the topic of switching to vaping as a quitting cessation tool.
