CBD Oil Can Also Be Helpful for Your Pet
Return to Latest News

Cannabidiol oil, better known as CBD oil, has become a hot topic due to its effectiveness in alleviating symptoms associated with certain conditions in humans. Since dogs have an endocannabinoid system similar to humans and other mammals, CBD oil is also increasing in popularity amongst dog owners to help relieve join pain, arthritis, anxiety, seizures, and other symptoms to support their dogs’ health in more natural ways. The following three things should be considered when looking for a safe and reliable CBD treatment for your pet.

Hemp Source

Determining the origin of your CBD hemp source says a lot about the product. The more transparent a brand is about their production or farming process, the better. Country of origin, growing climate, indoor or outdoor farming, and knowing if pesticides or herbicides were used all contribute to the quality of the final product.

Extract Type

For CBD oils, there are three primary extract types: isolate, broad spectrum, and full spectrum. Isolate is when all components of the hemp plant are stripped to leave only CBD and zero THC (the component that creates a “high”). Broad spectrum is less processed resulting in a small amount of THC remaining (less than 0.3%). This minimal amount of THC is believed to increase the effect of the CBD. Full spectrum CBD is the least processed and contains the most original plant particles but still less than 0.3% THC. Full spectrum oils are used by those seeking maximum effect of their product.

Potency is essentially the strength of the product and is almost always represented in milligrams. The higher the milligram per volume, the stronger the dosage will be. The same is true for added ingredients such as CBG or melatonin which are added to help humans sleep. The strength needed for your pet will be determined by their weight. Brands with pet specific products will recommend based on breed size, but there are exceptions for animals with multiple or chronic conditions. Consult your vet if you’re looking to give your pet CBD on a daily basis.

There are several things to keep in mind when deciding if CBD might be a benefit to your pet such as hemp source, extract type, and potency. It’s also good to keep in mind that unlike most typical mediations that only come in pill form, CBD pet oil can be given under the tongue, mixed into food, added into treats, or baked into edibles.
